On August 14th, a one-day programme was successfully conducted at Panchayat Ghar, Akhnoor, Jammu, under the Aroma Mission Project Phase III. The event was organized by CSIR-Indian Institute of Integrative Medicine (IIIM), Jammu, with a primary focus on the cultivation of lemongrass and the marketing of its essential oil.
The programme aimed to educate and empower farmers from the Akhnoor area by providing them with comprehensive knowledge about the benefits and techniques of lemongrass cultivation. Additionally, the event highlighted the commercial potential of lemongrass essential oil, offering farmers insights into the profitable opportunities in the market.
A considerable number of local farmers actively participated in the programme, showing great enthusiasm to learn and adopt new agricultural practices that could enhance their income and livelihood. The event featured expert sessions on various aspects of lemongrass cultivation, including best practices for planting, maintenance, and harvesting. The speakers also addressed the process of extracting and marketing lemongrass essential oil, emphasizing its high demand in the pharmaceutical, cosmetic, and aromatherapy industries.
The event concluded with an interactive session, where farmers had the opportunity to ask questions and seek advice from the experts present. The participants expressed their gratitude to CSIR-IIIM Jammu for organizing such an informative and beneficial programme.
This initiative under the Aroma Mission Project Phase III is expected to significantly contribute to the socio-economic development of the region by promoting sustainable agricultural practices and creating new avenues for income generation among the farming community in Akhnoor.
