CSIR-IIIM, JAMMU
On 6 October, 2025 under the Aroma Mission Phase–III of the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research Indian Institute of Integrative Medicine (CSIR–IIIM), Jammu, a training program was organized for farmers in the Gram Panchayat Wan area, Block Dewal, District Chamoli, Uttarakhand.
The main objective of this program was to create awareness among farmers about the cultivation and industrial utilization of medicinal and aromatic plants, particularly rosemary, lavender, and other commercially valuable species. During the session, scientists and experts from CSIR–IIIM Jammu provided detailed guidance on the scientific methods of cultivation, harvesting techniques, post-harvest management, and the value addition processes associated with these crops.
Farmers were informed about the economic benefits and employment opportunities that can be generated through the commercial cultivation of such aromatic and medicinal plants. The experts also discussed how these crops can be integrated into existing farming systems to enhance farm income and promote sustainable agriculture in hilly regions like Chamoli.
Additionally, participants were introduced to the industrial applications of essential oils extracted from rosemary and lavender, including their use in pharmaceuticals, cosmetics, and perfumery industries. The training encouraged farmers to adopt scientific cultivation practices and to take advantage of the support and guidance being provided under the CSIR Aroma Mission to strengthen the rural economy of Uttarakhand.
