CSIR-IIIM, JAMMU
Under the Aroma Mission Phase–III, the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research–Indian Institute of Integrative Medicine (CSIR–IIIM), Jammu, conducted a one-day training program for farmers in the Gram Panchayat Kuling area Chamoli district of Uttarakhand. The primary goal of this initiative was to raise awareness among farmers regarding the cultivation and industrial utilization of medicinal and aromatic plants (MAPs), with a particular focus on rosemary, lavender, and other high-value aromatic species.
Scientists and experts from CSIR–IIIM Jammu delivered comprehensive sessions on Scientific methods of cultivation Improved harvesting and post-harvest management techniques Value addition and processing methods for aromatic crops. The program emphasized the economic potential and employment generation opportunities associated with the commercial cultivation of MAPs. Participants learned how these crops could be integrated into existing farming systems to improve farm income and promote sustainable agriculture in the hilly terrains of Uttarakhand.
The training encouraged farmers to adopt scientific cultivation practices and to utilize the technical support and guidance offered under the CSIR Aroma Mission. The initiative aims to empower rural communities and contribute to the economic development of Uttarakhand’s hill regions through the promotion of aromatic and medicinal plant cultivation.
