On August 8, 2025, the CSIR-Indian Institute of Integrative Medicine (IIIM), Jammu, successfully conducted an Awareness-cum-Quality Planting Material (QPM) Distribution Program in Rohtak, Haryana, to promote the cultivation of Lemongrass. The event aimed to educate farmers about the economic and environmental benefits of Lemongrass farming, provide them with technical know-how, and supply superior-quality planting material to support this profitable agricultural venture.
During the program, experts explained the economic potential of Lemongrass cultivation, its suitability for local climatic conditions, and the growing market demand for Lemongrass and its value-added products. Participants were trained in various aspects of cultivation, including soil preparation, irrigation methods, pest control, and sustainable agricultural practices.
Around 50 farmers from different parts of Rohtak District took part in the event and received 2.5 lakh rooted Lemongrass plants. This large-scale distribution initiative is expected to encourage the widespread adoption of Lemongrass cultivation, enabling farmers to diversify their crops and enhance their income.
Through this program, CSIR-IIIM aims to strengthen agricultural diversification, rural economic development, and environmental sustainability. As a climate-resilient and low-water-requirement crop, Lemongrass offers farmers a viable means to increase profitability while promoting eco-friendly farming practices and contributing to the overall growth of the regional economy.
