CSIR IIIM Jammu hosted a two-day Skill Development Program on Sustainable Aromatic Agriculture under Aroma Mission Phase–III.

CSIR IIIM Jammu organized a two-day Skill Development Program on Sustainable Aromatic Agriculture as part of the CSIR Aroma Mission Phase–III. The program concluded successfully, focusing on empowering women by providing scientific and practical training in aromatic crop cultivation, value addition, product formulation, and rural entrepreneurship. Participants learned to create aroma candles, dhoop cones, fragrance blends, and other value-added products, along with gaining skills in packaging, marketing, and understanding the aromatic value chain. They also practiced the dipping and packing of dhoop cones and explored applications of lavender oil in product development.

Day 1 – Training on Dhoop Making

The program was inaugurated on November 18, 2025, at CSIR–IIIM Jammu. The first day focused on hands-on training in preparing dhoop cones using aromatic plant based materials. The session opened with an overview of the mission, its goals, and its role in enhancing rural livelihoods through sustainable aromatic farming and product innovation.

Participants were trained in formulation techniques, natural ingredient blending, and methods for producing premium incense products. CSIR IIIM experts demonstrated each step of the process from mixing the raw materials to rolling, drying, and packaging emphasizing opportunities for value addition and entrepreneurship in the aromatic products industry. The practical sessions were designed to equip farmers, women, and rural youth with the skills needed to develop market-ready aromatic products, encouraging small-scale enterprises and supporting sustainable livelihood generation.

Day 2 – Candle Making Training

On the second day, 19th November, CSIR IIIM Jammu conducted an intensive session on aromatic candle making as part of the training program. Participants learned how to create scented candles using essential oils, with guidance on choosing the right wax, blending fragrances, pouring and molding techniques, and safety practices. The session highlighted the importance of creativity, product quality, and the growing market potential for handcrafted aromatic candles. Through hands-on practice, attendees were equipped with the skills needed to design and produce their own range of value-added aromatic products, fostering opportunities for self-employment and small-scale entrepreneurship in rural and semi-urban communities.

Valedictory:

The program concluded on 19th November 2025, with the distribution of certificates to all participants as a mark of successful completion of the training. The initiative highlighted CSIR IIIM’s commitment to supporting rural development and promoting tribal entrepreneurship in the aromatic sector.
