Under the CSIR–IIIM Aroma Mission, a total of 22,600 aromatic plants were distributed among farmers on 20 January 2026 to promote cultivation of high-value aromatic crops in the Jammu region. The distribution included 13,300 lavender plants and 9,300 rosemary plants, which were supplied to six progressive farmers from the districts of Udhampur and Reasi.
The initiative aims to encourage farmers to adopt aromatic and medicinal plant cultivation as an alternative income source, enhancing livelihood opportunities and supporting rural entrepreneurship. The farmers were briefed on scientific cultivation practices, agronomic management, and the economic potential of lavender and rosemary under local agro-climatic conditions.
This activity reflects CSIR–IIIM’s continued efforts under the Aroma Mission to strengthen farmer capacity, promote sustainable agriculture, and boost the aromatic plant-based economy in the Union Territory of Jammu & Kashmir.
