On 6th November 2025, under the ongoing CSIR-IIIM Aroma Mission, an awareness and training program was organized in the villages of Block Chamba and Block Thauldhar, District Tehri Garhwal, Uttarakhand. The program aimed to promote the cultivation of aromatic crops and to build the capacity of farmers in nursery management and scientific agricultural practices.
During the program, interested farmers were provided with practical training on the establishment and management of nurseries for aromatic plants. The training sessions covered various aspects including propagation techniques, soil and nutrient management, irrigation scheduling, pest and disease control, and post-harvest handling of aromatic crops such as lavender and rosemary. Experts from CSIR-IIIM demonstrated improved agronomic practices and highlighted the economic potential of aromatic crops for enhancing rural livelihoods.
In addition to the training sessions, field visits were conducted to villages where lavender and rosemary are being cultivated under the Aroma Mission. The purpose of these visits was to evaluate the crop performance, assess field conditions, and interact with farmers to understand their experiences and challenges. Observations made during the field surveys provided valuable insights for improving crop productivity and management practices.
The program successfully enhanced awareness among the farming community regarding the benefits and opportunities associated with aromatic crop cultivation. It also strengthened the interface between scientists and farmers, fostering greater adoption of scientific interventions for sustainable livelihood generation through aromatic plant cultivation in the region.
