CSIR-IIIM, JAMMU

Under the CSIR–IIIM Jammu Aroma Mission Phase-III, on 09/12/2025, a comprehensive training and awareness program for farmers was organized in Partha Village of Tharali Block, District Chamoli, Uttarakhand. As part of the outreach activities, the project team conducted a detailed survey of the local agricultural fields. They assessed the region’s climate, soil conditions, and existing cropping patterns to identify suitable land patches where medicinal and aromatic plants could be successfully cultivated.

During the training, farmers received thorough instruction on the cultivation of economically important aromatic crops such as Rosemary and Lavender. They were guided on various scientific farming practices, including nursery management, proper planting techniques, irrigation schedules, pest and disease control measures, and post-harvest processing methods.

Farmers were also informed about the significant economic potential of these crops. The team highlighted how the cultivation of medicinal and aromatic plants can increase income through value addition, processing opportunities, and connections with industrial markets. Information was shared on prospects such as setting up small-scale distillation or processing units, extracting essential oils, and meeting the growing demand from the pharmaceutical, cosmetic, and fragrance sectors.
