CSIR-IIIM, JAMMU
Under the CSIR–IIIM Jammu Aroma Mission Phase-III, a detailed training and awareness programme was held on 09/12/2025 in Sagwada Village, Tharali Block, District Chamoli, Uttarakhand. As part of the outreach efforts, the project team carried out an extensive survey of nearby agricultural fields. They examined the area’s climate, soil characteristics, and current cropping practices to pinpoint suitable land areas for cultivating medicinal and aromatic plant species.
During the session, farmers were thoroughly trained in the cultivation of high-value aromatic crops such as Rosemary and Lavender. The team explained various scientific farming techniques, including nursery development, correct methods of planting, proper irrigation practices, integrated pest and disease management, and efficient post-harvest handling.
Farmers were also made aware of the strong economic prospects associated with these crops. The team emphasized how cultivating medicinal and aromatic plants can enhance income through value addition, processing, and linkages with industrial markets. They also discussed opportunities such as establishing small-scale distillation or processing units, producing essential oils, and supplying the growing needs of the pharmaceutical, cosmetic, and fragrance industries.
