CSIR-IIIM, JAMMU
On 24th September 2025, under the CSIR-IIIM Jammu Aroma Mission Phase-III, a comprehensive farmers’ training program was organized in the Gram Panchayats of the Jageshwar region, specifically at Village Chamua Khalsa, Dhauladevi Block, Almora District, Uttarakhand.
The program aimed to raise awareness and build the capacity of farmers in the cultivation of medicinal and aromatic plants (MAPs) such as rosemary, lavender, and other high-value crops. During the training, experts provided detailed insights into various aspects of these crops, including Agro-technological practices like methods of cultivation, soil and climatic requirements, irrigation, harvesting, and post-harvest handling. The use of essential oils and extracts in pharmaceuticals, cosmetics, perfumery, food, and wellness industries to ensure higher profitability and sustainable income.
Farmers were also made aware of the support provided under the Aroma Mission, including technical guidance, planting material, and the role of CSIR-IIIM Jammu in promoting rural entrepreneurship through medicinal and aromatic plants.
The session emphasized how shifting from conventional crops to high-value aromatic crops can not only enhance farmers’ income but also generate employment opportunities, thereby contributing to socio-economic development in hilly regions like Uttarakhand.
