Awareness program organized at Village Parawari, Gairsain Block, District Chamoli, Uttarakhand on 2-10-2025.

The awareness programme conducted on 02/10/2025 under CSIR-IIIM Jammu Aroma Mission Phase-III at Parawari Gram Panchayat, Gairsain Block, District Chamoli, Uttarakhand, the programe was organized with the objective of creating awareness among farmers about the potential of medicinal and aromatic plants (MAPs) like rosemary, lavender, and others. The programme emphasized the importance of these crops not only from an agricultural perspective but also in terms of their industrial and commercial applications.

During the training, experts from CSIR-IIIM Jammu explained modern cultivation techniques, proper agro-climatic requirements, and scientific practices necessary for achieving higher yields of aromatic crops. Special focus was given to the industrial utilization of these plants in sectors such as pharmaceuticals, cosmetics, perfumery, and essential oils, highlighting their demand in national and international markets. Farmers were also educated on the value-addition process, post-harvest management, and the role of farmer–industry linkages to maximize profitability.

In addition, the programme provided insights into how the cultivation of these crops could serve as an alternative source of income, reduce dependence on traditional farming, and promote sustainable agriculture in the hilly terrains of Uttarakhand. The initiative aimed to motivate farmers to adopt these high-value crops, thereby contributing to rural livelihood generation, women empowerment, and economic development in the region. This awareness programme acted as a bridge between scientific knowledge and grassroots farming practices, ensuring that the farmers of Chamoli are well-equipped to benefit from the growing opportunities in the medicinal and aromatic plant sector.
