CSIR-IIIM, JAMMU

The CSIR-Indian Institute of Integrative Medicine (CSIR-IIIM), Jammu, successfully conducted an awareness program under Aroma Mission Phase III on 31st October, 2025, at Uprikot Village, located in Block Dunda in District Uttarkashi, Uttarakhand. The program was designed to educate and empower farmers with practical knowledge and advanced skills for cultivating aromatic plants, known for their significant economic and environmental benefits.
As part of the initiative, a special session was conducted on medicinal and aromatic crops such as Rosemary and Lavender, highlighting their economic, ecological, and health benefits. Experts from CSIR-IIIM Jammu explained the cultivation practices, climatic requirements, and post-harvest management techniques for these high-value crops, which have significant demand in the pharmaceutical, cosmetic, and aromatherapy industries. Farmers were sensitized about the potential of rosemary and lavender as alternative cash crops that can enhance income while promoting sustainable agriculture in the hilly regions of Uttarakhand. Interactive discussions encouraged villagers to consider integrating these crops into their traditional farming systems, thereby opening new avenues for employment, entrepreneurship, and rural development.
