On August 8, 2025, the CSIR-Indian Institute of Integrative Medicine (IIIM), Jammu, organized an Awareness-cum-Quality Planting Material (QPM) Distribution Program in Gurugram, Haryana, to promote Lemongrass cultivation among local farmers. The initiative aimed to raise awareness about the economic and environmental benefits of Lemongrass farming, provide technical guidance, and distribute high-quality planting material to support this lucrative agricultural practice. During the program, experts highlighted the profitability of Lemongrass cultivation, its adaptability to the region’s climatic conditions, and the growing market demand for Lemongrass and its value-added products. Farmers were given practical training on soil preparation, irrigation management, pest control, and sustainable cultivation techniques. The farmers from different parts Gurugram District participated in the event and received 3 lakh rooted Lemongrass plants. This large-scale distribution initiative aims to encourage widespread adoption of Lemongrass cultivation, helping farmers diversify their cropping patterns and enhance their income. By providing farmers with quality resources and hands-on knowledge, CSIR-IIIM seeks to promote agricultural diversification, strengthen rural economies, and advance environmental sustainability. As a climate-resilient and low-water-demand crop, Lemongrass offers a promising opportunity to boost farm profitability while supporting eco-friendly and sustainable agricultural practices in the region.
