On September 5, 2025, the CSIR-Indian Institute of Integrative Medicine (IIIM), Jammu, organized an Awareness-cum-Quality Planting Material (QPM) Distribution Program in Niwari District, Madhya Pradesh. The initiative was designed to educate local farmers about the prospects of lemongrass and rosagrass cultivation, equipping them with the necessary knowledge and resources to adopt these high-value aromatic crops.
During the awareness session, experts highlighted the benefits, cultivation methods, and economic potential of these crops. Around 55 farmers took part in the program, gaining practical insights into how lemongrass and rosagrass can become sustainable and profitable farming alternatives. Agricultural scientists provided guidance on optimal growing conditions, harvesting techniques, and market opportunities for these crops and their derivatives.
After the training, a Quality Planting Material distribution drive was conducted, where 3.5 lakh lemongrass plants and 2 lakh rosagrass plants were distributed among participating farmers from various parts of the district. This large-scale initiative aims to encourage aromatic crop cultivation, diversify agricultural practices, enhance farmers’ income, and promote eco-friendly farming in the region.
Through this program, IIIM Jammu continues to play a vital role in empowering rural communities, fostering sustainable agriculture, and strengthening the agro-economy of Niwari district.
