Awareness cum QPM distribution program organized at Baddar, Mohar, Reasi in Jammu & Kashmir on 24-2-2025

The CSIR-Indian Institute of Integrative Medicine (IIIM), Jammu, successfully conducted an Awareness and Quality Planting Material (QPM) Distribution Program on February 24, 2025, at Baddar Village, Block Mohar, District Reasi, Jammu & Kashmir. This initiative aimed to educate farmers about the benefits of lavender cultivation and provide them with the necessary technical knowledge and resources to adopt this profitable agricultural practice.The awareness session focused on the advantages of lavender cultivation, including its high market value and suitability for local climatic conditions.Essential cultivation techniques, such as soil preparation, irrigation methods, and pest management.The economic potential of lavender farming, including insights into market demand and opportunities for value-added products.A total of 45 farmers from different locations of Reasi District actively participated in the program. Agricultural experts provided detailed guidance on best practices for growing lavender, optimal environmental conditions, and sustainable farming techniques.

Following the awareness session, a QPM distribution program was conducted, during which 66,500 rooted lavender plants were distributed among 29 farmers from various locations across Reasi District. This initiative is expected to encourage the widespread adoption of lavender farming, enabling farmers to diversify their agricultural practices, enhance their income, and contribute to eco-friendly farming methods.

Additionally, a practical training session was organized, where experts demonstrated the correct techniques for transplanting lavender plants in the field. This hands-on training aimed to ensure that farmers implement proper transplantation methods, leading to higher plant survival rates and improved yields.

Through this program, IIIM, Jammu, is playing a crucial role in promoting sustainable agriculture and improving rural livelihoods in the region. By equipping farmers with the knowledge and resources required for successful lavender cultivation, this initiative is expected to boost economic growth, agricultural diversification, and environmental sustainability in Reasi and Ramban districts.
