On February 19, 2025, the CSIR-Indian Institute of Integrative Medicine (IIIM), Jammu, conducted an Awareness and Quality Planting Material (QPM) Distribution Program at Kansyud Village in Thauldhar Block, Tehri Garhwal District, Uttarakhand. This initiative was designed to educate local farmers about the vast potential of lavender cultivation and provide them with the necessary knowledge and resources to adopt this profitable agricultural practice. The program focused on key aspects such as the advantages of lavender farming, essential cultivation techniques, and the economic benefits it can offer to farmers.
The event saw the active participation of over eight farmers, who received valuable insights into how lavender cultivation could serve as an alternative and sustainable source of income. Experts at the session provided detailed guidance on the benefits of growing lavender, highlighting its role in increasing farmers’ earnings while also promoting eco-friendly and sustainable agricultural practices. Farmers were informed about the best cultivation techniques, soil and climatic conditions required, harvesting methods, and market potential of lavender and its by-products.
Following the awareness session, the program proceeded with a Quality Planting Material (QPM) distribution event, wherein a total of 7,000 high-quality lavender plants were distributed among eight farmers from various locations across the district. This distribution is expected to encourage the adoption of lavender farming in the region, providing farmers with an opportunity to diversify their agricultural activities, boost their income, and contribute to sustainable farming practices. The initiative by IIIM, Jammu, holds great promise for enhancing rural livelihoods and promoting environmentally responsible farming in Tehri Garhwal District.
