CSIR-IIIM
The Indian Institute of Integrative Medicine (IIIM), Jammu, a constituent laboratory of the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR), conducted Awareness cum Training Programme under the Aroma Mission at Sarani village in Rajasthan on 29-07-2024. This initiative aimed to introduce and promote the cultivation of aromatic plants like Ocimum (Tulsi) in the region, providing local farmers and entrepreneurs with the necessary skills and knowledge to harness the economic potential of these crops.
The programme was designed with objectives to educate participants about the diverse applications and economic benefits of aromatic plants, including essential oil production and other value-added products and to provide practical training in the cultivation, harvesting, processing, and commercialization of aromatic crops. This programme also familiarizes participants with the latest advancements in aromatic plant cultivation, including high-yielding varieties and sustainable agricultural practices.
CSIR-IIIM Jammu plans to continue its outreach and training efforts under the Aroma Mission, targeting more regions across Rajasthan and other states. Future programmes will focus on providing continuous support and guidance to farmers, facilitating access to quality planting materials, and assisting in establishing market linkages for the aromatic products.
Through these initiatives, the Aroma Mission seeks to empower rural communities, promote sustainable agricultural practices, and boost the local economy by tapping into the growing demand for aromatic and medicinal plants.
