QPM distribution program organized at Srinagar, in Jammu & Kashmir on 19-03-2025

On March 19, 2025, the CSIR-Indian Institute of Integrative Medicine (IIIM), Jammu, conducted a successful Awareness and Quality Planting Material (QPM) Distribution Program at Srinagar, Jammu & Kashmir. The program aimed to promote lavender cultivation by educating farmers about its benefits, providing essential technical knowledge, and distributing high-quality planting material.

The event was designed to encourage farmers to adopt lavender farming, a profitable agricultural practice with immense economic potential, and covered the high market value of lavender crops, Suitability for the local climatic conditions of Srinagar district, Detailed guidance on soil preparation, irrigation methods, and pest management and Information on the market demand for lavender and potential opportunities for value-added products.

Practical training session where experts demonstrated proper lavender transplantation techniques to enhance plant survival and improve yields. A total of 21 farmers from different areas of Srinagar District participated in the awareness session, where agricultural experts shared best practices, sustainable farming techniques, and optimal environmental conditions for lavender cultivation.During the program, 164,000 rooted lavender plants were distributed to 21 farmers from various locations in Srinagar District. This large-scale distribution aims to encourage widespread adoption of lavender farming, helping farmers diversify their agricultural practices and improve their income.

To complement the theoretical knowledge, a hands-on training session was conducted. Experts demonstrated proper techniques for transplanting lavender plants in the field, ensuring farmers have the skills to maximize plant survival rates and yields.

This initiative by CSIR-IIIM, Jammu, is expected to have a lasting impact by promoting agricultural diversification, sustainable farming, and eco-friendly practices. By equipping farmers with the necessary resources and technical know-how, the program aims to boost rural livelihoods by improving farm income, encouraging economic growth in the region through the cultivation of high-value crops and Foster environmental sustainability by promoting the cultivation of lavender, a low-water-demand and climate-resilient crop.
